Cultural Story-telling Major

Cultural Story-telling Major

The 21st century is the storytelling era.

To share Korea’s innate and infinite stories to become global contents!

James Cameron who directed “The Terminator” and “Avatar”, the musicals “Cats” and “Miss Saigon” written by Makintosh, and the original author of “Jurassic Park” Michael Crichton, all have one thing in common despite their field of art is different, they were all excellent storytellers.

Correct me if I am wrong but Cats was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Miss Saigon was written by Claude-Michel Sehonberg. Minimally, you need a full name, not just “Makintosh.”

In 2002, Bill Gates from Microsoft made 45 billion KRW from stock dividends however British author Joanne Rowling made an astronomical figure of 300 billion KRW on copyrights just for her story, “Harry Potter.”

Storytelling doesn’t simply describe the action of ‘telling a story’ but ‘creating a story’ which can become a source for a content.

If the storytellers from the analogue era required the author’s characteristics, distinctiveness natural-born creativeness, the storytellers in the digital era need to understand a variety of cultural codes and requires the skill to combine them and express them in a universally persuasive way through the right medium. Storytellers in the digital era are no longer authors who create their own creative world but editors editing stories from the previous era by fully understanding past stories and utilizing them effectively.
